چکیده
Abstract Aims Patients undergoing thyroidectomy for Graves’ disease are at increased risk of post-operative complications and therefore require additional pre-operative preparation close assessment. This study aimed to assess the pre- management morbidity in a single UK tertiary centre. Method Retrospective analysis patients between 2014–19. The primary endpoint was thyroid status pre-operatively morbidity. Secondary endpoints were administration potassium iodide, vitamin D beta blockers assessment parathyroid function. Results Ninety-two thyroidectomies undertaken five-year period. Pre-operatively 98% successfully rendered euthyroid or hypothyroid 2% hyperthyroid but required emergency surgery. Post-operative hypocalcaemia occurred 26% temporary 92%. Vocal cord palsy found 11%, all cases (post-operative laryngoscopy reported 93%). 49% had received 53% beta-blockers 48% D. calcium PTH estimation on day 0 99% 97% respectively 1 100% 98%. Conclusion audit specialist practice shows majority eu- low complication rates, with being temporary. Pre-operative medical optimization not uniformly although outcomes good, protocol improve consistency has been developed response.
